The Egg Harbor Township baseball team has had an up-and-down season, going 8-6 through their first 14 games. But the Eagles are flying high after this past weekend, having won the Pop McKenna Tournament in Deptford for the second straight year thanks to an offensive explosion from Dante DiPalma. The junior was on fire at the plate this weekend, going 3-for-4 in the Eagles’ 8-4, semifinals win over Audubon, then following that up with a 3-run double in Egg Harbor Township’s 6-4 win over West Deptford in the championship game. For his efforts, DiPalma was named the tournament’s MVP, and he’s also earned this week’s honor as the Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week. The Eagles trailed West Deptford 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth in the championship game, but DiPalma’s 3-RBI double highlighted a 5-run rally that gave EHT the lead for good. The loss was only the second of the season for West Deptford, one of the top teams in South Jersey Group 2. In 11 games, DiPalma is hitting .323 with 10 hits and eight runs batted in. DiPalma also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in EHT’s wild, 26-16 win over Atlantic City last Tuesday.
