Few high school pitchers can control a game the way Absegami senior ace Matt Ardente does. Ardente uses a good fastball and perhaps the best change-up in the Cape-Atlantic League to keep hitters off balanced, and the hallmark of his career with the Braves has been his consistency. Ardente, a right-hander who has committed to Seton Hall University, beat Millville 7-4 on April 27 to record career win No. 21 and in the process become the school’s all-time winningest pitcher. His 21st victory surpassed the 20 of Ron Sansom, who graduated in 1984. Matt Ardente beat Millville 7-4 on April 27 to become Absegami’s career leader in pitching wins with 21. The win over Millville was the fifth of the season for Ardente, who improved to 5-1 with a 1.17 ERA. For his career, Ardente is 21-9 and 11 of those wins have come in the past two seasons.
