Some upcoming events at Mainland Regional High School include a home run derby this Saturday, May 11, and registrations for the Sharp Shooters Fundamental Camps, basketball camps the school has been running for the last 23 years. The home run derby is sponsored by the high school’s softball team and will take place at the varsity field on New Road in Linwood from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 and there are three different age groups: 7-13, 14-18 and 19 and older. Points are awarded for hits; one point for an infield hit, three for an outfield hit and five for a home run. All participants get 10 chances and receive medals, while supplies last. Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks available for purchase. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group. All proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life. The Sharp Shooters basketball camps for boys and girls ages 5 to 16 teach discipline, workout ethic and individual improvement through station drills. In addition, Mike Gatley’s Next Level Shooting Camps for serious middle school and high school athletes who want to improve shooting accuracy through high level drills has openings. The camp is strictly shooting and conditioning. Dates for the Saturday shooting camps are June 29 and July 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Belhaven School, and August 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Lafayette School in Ventnor.
